Borja Ferrater, Founding Partner of OAB & ELIA and PhD in Architecture, guided us through the history of the Ferrater Brick, from its beginnings to its modernization together with Breinco.

Immersed in the rich Mediterranean architectural tradition, the concrete brick has played an essential role in enhancing the authenticity of façades in numerous architectural works, adding a sense of warmth and calm to the urban environment. The new Ferrater Brick stands out for its more versatile design and innovative manufacturing process. It offers a wide range of color options, in perfect harmony with sustainability principles and contemporary construction traditions. In addition, the updated version of this brick also allows its use as paving.

Permeable paving

Breinco presented its paving range, with a focus on permeable paving solutions. These were showcased integrally as part of the stand’s flooring, attracting the attention of visitors. The most impressive aspect, however, was the live demonstration of how these permeable pavements work through an interactive model.

Advanced Urban Planning: Building a resilient city to experience it differently

Round table: Advanced Urban Planning. Building a resilient city to experience it differently | REBUILD 2024

This round table addressed important aspects for building cities aligned with the circular economy, highlighting in particular the importance of promoting active transport as a key strategy to minimize pollution generated by cars. Encouraging the use of non-motorized transport strengthens the connection with the urban environment and fosters healthier and more sustainable lifestyles.

Christian Cazorla, Technical Director of Breinco | REBUILD 2024

Christian Cazorla, Technical Director of Breinco, highlighted the importance of understanding the difference between “reusable” and “recyclable”. In an environment driven by innovation, reuse emerges as an essential tool to promote urban sustainability. Beyond recycling materials, reuse involves rethinking the lifecycle of objects and spaces, resulting in a significant reduction in waste and environmental footprint.

Recovered landscapes to be inhabited

Round table: Recovered landscapes to be inhabited | REBUILD 2024

The round table on recovered landscapes to be inhabited highlighted important points, including the urgent need to restore spaces altered by human activity, with devastating consequences for ecosystems and plant and animal species.

Martirià Figueras | CEO Aspecte Paisatge | REBUILD 2024

Participants shared a unanimous vision, summarized by the renowned landscape architect Martirià Figueras: we must build our landscapes guided by nature itself and ask ourselves whether we shape it or are part of it. This approach not only drives the recovery of degraded areas, but also fosters a sustainable harmony between the built environment and the natural world, ensuring a more balanced and livable future for all.
