The Plaza d’en Clos is a small-scale urban space located in the municipality of Ripollet, designed as an everyday meeting point where vehicle traffic and pedestrian use coexist. The project proposes a transformation of the public space with the aim of prioritizing the pedestrian, while maintaining the functionality of existing traffic flows and providing the square with a clear and recognizable identity.
The intervention is based on the creation of a continuous surface, achieved through a single type of pavement that acts as a unifying element for the entire site and reinforces the perception of spatial amplitude. Upon this base, a singular linear element is introduced to organize the square, delimit specific areas, and protect pedestrian routes, preventing the fragmentation of the space.
In this project, Breinco has incorporated the Terana® art paver in color Ceniza, laid in a random combination pattern that provides visual dynamism and a contemporary character to the pavement. This solution is particularly suitable for public spaces, capable of offering resistance, durability, and aesthetic stability against intensive use and the passage of time. In the transitions with the surrounding streets, the pavement adapts through curb ramps that ensure accessibility and the correct transition between levels.
The design is completed with the incorporation of a perforated metallic element with integrated LED lighting, which acts as a boundary between pedestrian areas and vehicle traffic, guiding transit both day and night. This multifunctional element integrates seating areas finished in natural stone and culminates in a light column that illuminates the central space of the square.
The intervention also incorporates a new tree arrangement, with the planting of Ceratonia siliqua specimens, improving environmental comfort and the use of shade. The use of the Terana® art paver makes it possible to configure a versatile and welcoming space, designed for resting, walking, and social interaction, contributing to the creation of a functional, accessible, and high-quality urban square.
