The redevelopment of the surroundings of El Cabanyal Station has transformed more than 5,000 m² of public space into an accessible, inclusive place that respects Mediterranean identity. The intervention combines universal mobility, a gender perspective, and sustainable solutions, offering safe and pleasant routes for all residents.
For the paving, Llosa Vulcano® and Terana Six® were used, along with Gran Llosa Vulcano® in wider areas. These prefabricated pieces stand out for their durability, color stability, and aesthetic finish, guaranteeing comfort for pedestrian traffic and low maintenance over time. Garden curbs and Superstep® steps help organize the different levels and delimit green areas, contributing to a clear reading of the space.
In addition, Llosa Vulcano® Tactile Crossing tactile paving has been incorporated— elements designed to facilitate orientation for visually impaired individuals and guarantee safe routes. Its inclusion allows for a clear reading of the space and improves safety along the main itineraries, without disrupting the aesthetic coherence of the overall project.
The project enhances the relationship between historical heritage and contemporary use, incorporating vegetation and landscaping elements that create visual continuity and a pleasant atmosphere. The large surfaces paved with Gran Llosa Vulcano® reinforce the sense of spaciousness, while the prefabricated materials promote sustainability by including up to 40% recycled aggregates and being 100% recyclable.
With this intervention, the surroundings of the station consolidate as an urban benchmark for accessibility, sustainability, and landscaping quality—recognized with the 2025 Alhambra National Award in green infrastructure—where architecture, design, and functionality integrate to enrich the daily experience of the community.
