Les Glòries in Barcelona are conceived as a new green lung in the heart of the city, promoting citizen interaction, pedestrian mobility, and respect for the environment. Brienco, as a leader in sustainable urban solutions, has designed and executed custom paving, urban furniture, and urban development elements for the different spaces of the Canòpia Urbana, integrating functionality, aesthetics, and comfort.
Within this project, the remodeling of Mercat dels Encants, the largest market of its category, represents an emblematic intervention. The market combines tradition and modernity, preserving the open-air shopping experience under a large canopy without losing its historical and open character. The work has allowed the new Encants to integrate harmoniously into the urban space, alongside pedestrian zones, underground parking, services, and multi-purpose areas.
For the external paving, Llosa Vulcano® in Canòpia color has been incorporated—a light shade specially created at the architects’ request, designed to reduce surface temperatures in urban environments and provide chromatic uniformity to outdoor spaces. This slab combines resistance, durability, and aesthetics, guaranteeing low maintenance, anti-slip safety, and functionality for high-traffic pedestrian areas.
Additionally, Net-Clean® has been applied to the external paving—a surface protector that facilitates the cleaning of dirt and stains, extending the pavement’s lifespan and reducing the resources required for its maintenance. This protection system is environmentally friendly, as it is solvent-free and offers different levels of efficacy depending on the specific needs of the space.
The result is a revitalized urban environment where external paving, design, and functionality combine with sustainable, low-maintenance solutions. Les Glòries and the Mercat dels Encants are thus established as a benchmark for modernity, tradition, and quality of life in Barcelona, offering a safe, accessible, and comfortable space for residents, visitors, and merchants alike.
