At the heart of Europe’s most important financial district, the La promenade des Jardins de l’Arche project redefines the public space of La Défense as a major green axis connecting the Nanterre and Puteaux neighborhoods. The intervention transforms an area of infrastructural character into a welcoming, pedestrian-friendly, and contemporary environment, where architecture and landscape merge seamlessly.

Urban and landscape continuity

The new promenade, designed by the firm AWP, is conceived as a large landscaped ramp that connects the different levels of the district, creating a fluid sequence of public spaces. Gardens, plazas, and pathways alternate to form a dynamic landscape that encourages walking and discovering new perspectives of the urban environment.

The project functions as a major connecting space between the district’s buildings and the future Arena 92, fostering the relationship between existing architecture and new developments. Through light, topography, and materiality, it creates an atmosphere that combines monumentality with a human scale.

Custom paving and furniture

For this intervention, Breinco contributed by manufacturing architectural concrete slabs, benches, and staircases, custom-designed to integrate seamlessly into the project’s urban landscape.

The slabs, measuring 115x50x15 cm, were produced in three tones—White, Fusión, and Ash—offering a subtle and elegant color play. Their composition incorporates 20% recycled aggregate, reflecting the project’s environmental commitment.

The benches and steps, manufactured using WetCast® technology, feature high-precision finishes and smooth surfaces that encourage everyday use. The elements are produced with high-performance white concrete, ensuring durability and aesthetic purity in a highly demanding urban environment.

A public space for the future

La promenade des Jardins de l’Arche embodies the ambition of Grand Paris: a model of a sustainable, accessible, and connected city. In this expansive public space, technical precision, design, and sustainability come together to create an urban landscape that exudes modernity and balance.
