Mediterranean Avenue in Benidorm has been transformed into a vast urban living room, designed as a continuous, multifunctional space centred on people. The project reinterprets the city’s main thoroughfare, turning it into a model of sustainable, user-friendly urbanism that is fully connected with its surroundings.
The intervention, covering more than 26,000 m², has restored the pedestrian’s prominence by reorganising mobility and redefining the public space as a place for gathering and social interaction. The new paving, tree planting, and urban elements create a more open, accessible, and dynamic environment.
Pavement Inspired by the Mediterranean
The avenue’s paving has been crafted using the Benidorm Paver by Breinco, a piece specifically developed for the project with FluxCast® technology. Its design and texture aim to capture the reflections, shimmer, and movement of the Mediterranean Sea, transforming the urban surface into a dynamic canvas that changes with the daylight.
The composition combines three tones — white, black, and electric blue — evoking the coastal landscape and creating a chromatic transition from the edges of the roadway to the building façades. This interplay of color and texture adds visual depth and reinforces the project’s Mediterranean identity.
Innovation and Sustainability
Manufactured with granite aggregates and natural mineral pigments, the paver offers exceptional durability and colour stability against the effects of time and weather conditions. Additionally, its composition is completely environmentally safe, contributing to a more sustainable urban model.
The undulating texture of the pavement enhances the reflection of light and water, creating a dynamic visual effect that harmonises the natural and urban surroundings. The result is a vibrant, comfortable space that aligns with Benidorm’s innovative vision as a smart city.
