The purpose of tactile paving stones is to provide clear and unambiguous sensory guidance for blind users or those with significant visual or cognitive impairments.
Tactile Paving Stones
Order VIV/561/2010, of February 1, which develops the technical document on basic accessibility and non-discrimination conditions for access to and use of urban public spaces, establishes the criteria to be followed for the installation of tactile paving stones.

3. It helps pedestrians identify potential risks and warns them to proceed with caution.

2. The raised longitudinal bands of the “Tactile Crossing” piece offer people with blindness or vision problems a physical alert.
3. Can be used in public spaces as a directional guide to help pedestrians avoid hazards and obstructions, and to identify crossing points in transit areas.
4. The bands on the surface indicate which way to go.
