Developed by <strong data-start=\"849\" data-end=\"865\">Estudio ACTA<\/strong> under the direction of architects Ram\u00f3n Pico Valima\u00f1a and Javier L\u00f3pez Rivera, the project transforms the plaza into an open, accessible, and versatile space where architecture, urban life, and nature are seamlessly integrated. The pedestrianization of three side streets establishes continuity with the surroundings and opens up a large central area facing the Cathedral-University, which serves as a historic and architectural backdrop.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1473\" data-end=\"1857\">The design incorporates <strong data-start=\"1337\" data-end=\"1366\">green areas and mounds<\/strong> that evoke Huelva\u2019s characteristic topography, creating distinct areas that facilitate multiple uses: strolls, cultural activities, or community events. Every element, from the mounds to the paving, meets criteria of <strong data-start=\"2157\" data-end=\"2209\">sustainability, efficiency, and aesthetic coherence<\/strong>, striking a balance between heritage and modernity.<\/p>\n<h4 data-start=\"1371\" data-end=\"1653\">Sustainable paving: innovation and urban functionality<\/h4>\n<p data-start=\"552\" data-end=\"924\">Breinco participated in the remodeling of Plaza de la Merced by providing <strong data-start=\"2236\" data-end=\"2278\">sustainable paving solutions<\/strong>, carefully integrated into the urban setting. The paving follows the geometry of the space, enhancing continuity and accessibility while contributing to a clear interpretation of the urban complex.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-6373\" src=\"https:\/\/breinco.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/3-plaza-de-la-merced-huelva-premio-arquitectura-pavimento-drenante-sostenibilidad-1.png\" alt=\"Remodeling of Plaza de la Merced Huelva - 2025 Architecture Award\" width=\"905\" height=\"603\" \/><\/p>\n<h4>Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SUDS)<\/h4>\n<p data-start=\"2244\" data-end=\"2578\">The integration of Breinco&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breinco.com\/breincosmartblog\/pavimentacion-drenante-permeable-suds-urbanismo\/\">Acqua Pave permeable paving<\/a> establishes an advanced approach to <strong data-start=\"367\" data-end=\"398\">sustainable water management<\/strong>. Incorporated within <strong data-start=\"427\" data-end=\"476\">Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SUDS)<\/strong>, these pavements allow for the natural infiltration of rainfall, preventing runoff and contributing to the water regulation of the space without interfering with pedestrian flow or the daily use of the square.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2580\" data-end=\"2836\">Beyond its functionality, the paving serves as a <strong data-start=\"772\" data-end=\"811\">structural element of the project<\/strong>, organizing routes, connecting areas, and enhancing the spatial reading of the plaza.
