Urban renewal with AirClean® decontaminating paving
Located in the Vila Olímpica neighborhood, Avinguda Icària has undergone a comprehensive renovation of its central promenade, transforming 8,000 m² of public space into a more accessible, sustainable, and welcoming environment. The project has respected the original structure of the walk, enhancing its urban character through improvements in lighting, furniture, and pedestrian routes.
The paving plays a key role in the intervention. An sistema fotocatalítico Air Clean® in 60x40x7 cm format was incorporated, which contributes to reducir la contaminación atmosférica by transforming nitrogen oxides (NOx) into harmless compounds through the action of sunlight and water. This technology allows for the creation of healthier and self-cleaning surfaces, integrating naturally into the urban design without altering the aesthetic of the promenade.
To reinforce accessibility, podotactile paving was incorporated to signal crossings and elevation changes, facilitating the mobility of people with visual impairments and providing safety and inclusion throughout the entire route.
The result is a revitalized promenade that combines sustainability, functionality, and comfort, reclaiming Avinguda Icària as an active urban axis open to daily life, commerce, and pedestrian mobility—an example of how urban renewal can improve both the user experience and the environmental quality of the city.
