Augmented reality and interactive games

Since last September, the town of Lloret de Mar has had the first square in Catalonia with children’s games based on augmented reality.  Plaza Pere Torrent, located in the center of Lloret’s daily activity, has been transformed, creating an interactive play space for children to learn and share technology outdoors.

These consist of boards printed on the pavement that interact, through QR codes and images, with a mobile application that proposes games with cooperative and group dynamics.

The mayor of Lloret de Mar, Jaume Dulsat, highlights that the new square is “an innovative project,” and anyone who visits it will find “virtual effects that transform the real world into an interactive and digital universe.”

The proposal suggests other ways of playing in the park by using technology responsibly, with positive values and content.

It is backed by an educational project endorsed by early childhood education professionals, presenting educational and cooperative games that target factors of physical, cognitive, affective, and intellectual development, so that children learn through play.  They can run races, complete circuits, or solve clues to find characters or objects, view figures and trophies in augmented reality, and take photos with them.  The interactive area provides a large number of games in a small space and has the advantage of allowing new games and content to be added.

Another feature of this product is the innovation in the digital printing technique on concrete slabs. The game boards present high-resolution color images, abrasion resistance, and durability, making them suitable for installation in high-activity public spaces.

The result is a family-friendly space to socialize technology in squares and parks, in a healthy and fun way.  References:
