Breinco receives an Aura Award for its commitment to air quality | Air Clean®

On September 30, Breinco received recognition in the first edition of the Aura Awards, promoted by the Spanish Photocatalysis Technology Platform, in the category «To the founding member of the Iberian Photocatalysis Association». Christian Cazorla Baeza, Operations Director at Breinco, accepted the award on behalf of the entire team.

As a founding member of the Iberian Photocatalysis Association (AIF), Breinco has contributed for more than fifteen years to the development and implementation of photocatalytic solutions. This award recognizes a trajectory linked to material innovation and a commitment to healthier and more sustainable urban environments.

Making the value of clean air visible

Under the motto «Making the value of clean air visible», the Aura Awards were created to recognize individuals, companies, administrations, research centers, and projects working to improve air quality. Their first edition distinguished 15 initiatives and granted seven runners-up prizes, giving visibility to research, innovation, environmental health, infrastructure, public management, and the application of new technologies.

The gala, held at the Official College of Civil Engineers of Madrid, brought together professionals from various fields with a common goal: to highlight solutions that contribute to reducing pollution and moving towards healthier environments. The ceremony also coincided with the 15th anniversary of the AIF, recognizing the work and collaboration of the entities that have promoted photocatalysis over these years.

The role of the Iberian Photocatalysis Association

The AIF promotes the knowledge and application of photocatalysis as a tool to help improve air quality. Through dissemination, research, and collaboration among professionals, companies, and entities, the association drives solutions capable of translating scientific innovation into real-world applications.

The Aura Awards reinforce this mission by recognizing initiatives that, from different disciplines, work to ensure that air quality improvement is part of decisions regarding health, construction, infrastructure, and sustainability.

Innovation integrated into the urban environment

Photocatalysis is a technology that, through the action of light, activates processes capable of transforming certain pollutants. Its application in construction materials makes it possible to incorporate this environmental function into surfaces that already form part of our cities.

In this field, Breinco develops Air Clean®, its photocatalytic technology applied to pavements and facades. Through a catalyst incorporated into the surface, light activates a process that transforms certain pollutants, such as nitrogen oxides, into compounds that can be washed away with rainwater.

A trajectory with real applications

Air Clean® has been incorporated into various urban projects, including Can Rosès square, Icària Avenue, the Sants Highline, and areas of Terminal T1 at Barcelona-El Prat Airport. It is also present in projects outside Catalonia, such as Soho in Malaga and Boulevard Aubanel in Miramas, France.

These applications reflect how material innovation can contribute to integrating environmental criteria into the design and transformation of public spaces.

The Aura Award received by Breinco recognizes a trajectory of commitment to photocatalysis and the development of solutions that contribute to improving air quality. This recognition reinforces the importance of research, collaboration, and sustainability to build healthier cities.
