The Port of Mataró is one of the largest in Catalonia, located next to a protected area (the Natura 2000 Network) with a posidonia seagrass meadow that acts as a true underwater lung.

One of the main objectives of its redevelopment was to improve accessibility to its facilities, making access to the commercial and promenade areas much more intuitive for pedestrians. Today, the port is not only an easily accessible and visually attractive place, but also features a design that is more respectful and integrated with nature.
What were the key modifications at the Port of Mataró?
In the area adjacent to the Hotel Atenea Port, an elegant platform for concerts and events was created. This space aims to promote culture and creativity among young people.
- Between the commercial areas and the marina, several recreational zones have been created, including children’s playgrounds, sports areas, and terraces with permeable pergolas.
- Along the marina area, a comfortable pedestrian walkway has been created, allowing visitors to enjoy a pleasant stroll while observing a variety of boats and lively marine life. This area has also been optimized for vehicles and bicycles, with dedicated lanes and parking spaces.
- At the main entrance of the port, a large interactive water fountain can be seen, designed as both a decorative and recreational element. It has become a popular attraction for children, who enjoy playing in its water jets during the summer.
- One of the most important aspects of the redevelopment was the implementation of environmentally compliant infrastructure.
