Located on one of the main commercial and tourist axes of Cambrils, Rambla Jaume I has been redefined as a contemporary urban space, primarily pedestrian-oriented and aligned with criteria of sustainability and efficient mobility. This intervention transforms this strategic area into a pedestrian-friendly boulevard, enhancing accessibility and preparing it for integration into the municipality’s future Low Emission Zone.
The project involved a comprehensive renovation of the urban infrastructure, including the replacement of sewage networks, piping, and existing utilities, alongside a complete reorganization of the underground services. This structural upgrade has enabled a new surface configuration featuring continuous paving and expanded pedestrian areas, enhancing permeability, universal accessibility, and the overall environmental quality of the site.
The new paving structures the space and reinforces its linear character, consolidating the rambla as a civic and commercial axis. The materials used guarantee resistance to high-traffic volume, durability, and low maintenance, while providing a homogeneous and contemporary urban image.
The public space is completed with the incorporation of urban furniture and new lighting, creating areas for relaxation and meeting that enhance social and commercial activity.
The public space also incorporates urban furniture elements designed to enhance comfort and encourage users to linger. Notable among these is Calma, a timber and steel bench with a sober and solid character, designed to create areas for relaxation and foster social interaction in a high-traffic environment. Its combination of materials provides both warmth and durability, integrating naturally into the rambla’s new urban landscape.
The intervention is completed with the installation of Circle Planter units, which contribute to the renaturalization of the square, improving environmental quality and reinforcing the perception of a pedestrian-friendly space. Additionally, Lift litter bins have been incorporated; their functional and contemporary design integrates criteria of durability and ease of maintenance, ensuring formal coherence throughout the public realm.
This intervention thus consolidates Rambla Jaume I as a key element within Cambrils’ network of public spaces, integrating infrastructure, urban design, and economic revitalization into a coherent and durable project.
