Montserrat Square, located in the urban center of Argentona, stems from the redevelopment and expansion of a strategic public space at the intersection of three main streets. The project, developed by Ar47 Estudi d’Arquitectura in collaboration with the landscaping studio B-LAP, seeks to preserve the square’s original identity while enhancing its welcoming, safe, and protected character, transforming it into a new meeting point for the social life of the town.
The intervention expands the square’s surface area, incorporating a section of one of the adjacent streets as a pedestrian walkway, while preserving the maximum amount of existing trees—a key element in defining the space. The plane trees, holm oaks, and tipuanas become the primary generators of shade, structuring a comfortable and natural environment specifically designed for family use and intergenerational enjoyment.
At the center of the complex, a large children’s play area is configured, perfectly integrated into the surroundings without visual barriers or perimeter fencing, favoring spatial continuity and safety. The level changes generated between this area and the adjacent spaces are resolved through planted parterres and wall-benches, which articulate the space in a fluid and functional manner.
For the paving of the pedestrian routes, strolling areas, and seating spaces, Llosa Vulcano® has been incorporated—a high-performance precast concrete solution that creates continuous, resistant, and visually homogeneous surfaces. Its application helps unify the complex, reinforcing a clear reading of the space and ensuring optimal performance against the intensive use typical of a public square.
The result is a dynamic, inclusive urban space of high environmental quality, where the integration of Breinco paving plays a key role in defining the square’s contemporary character, enhancing the daily experience for both residents and visitors.
